The Upgrade

You Bought the Car. Now You Need the Charger.

A Level 2 home charger (240V) cuts your charge time from 40 or more hours on a standard outlet to 4 to 8 hours overnight. Many older California homes need a panel upgrade first, and SMUD's EV rebates are real for qualifying installs in the Sacramento service area.

ZG Electrical handles the charger install from panel to wall. We are licensed for the electrical work, we know the permit process, and we do not subcontract the job out to someone who has never done it.

What Is Included

  • Panel capacity check and load calculation
  • Dedicated 240V circuit sized for your charger
  • Charger mounting and commissioning
  • Permit pulled and inspection handled
  • SMUD rebate guidance during the estimate
  • Written, itemized quote before work starts

SMUD Rebates

SMUD offers incentives for qualifying EV charger installations in the Sacramento service area. The amount and eligibility depend on your meter type, charger model, and whether you are enrolling in a time-of-use rate. We walk you through what applies during your estimate visit, so there is no separate research required on your end.

Do I Need a Panel Upgrade First?

Many older homes run on 100-amp panels, which was enough for the original load but not for an EV charger on top of everything else. We check your panel capacity as part of every EV install estimate. If you need an upgrade, we can do both on the same day and combine the labor. This is usually the most cost-efficient path for homeowners who need both.

★★★★★

Had our main panel go out after a recent storm, had bids up to 10k, Zach got me taken care of for a fraction of that, and took care of the entire process.

ZG Electrical upgraded our electrical panel to 200 amps, and Zack and his assistant did an excellent job. They took care of everything, including permits, making the whole process smooth and stress-free.

Zack and his team did an amazing job installing power for our new sauna, tesla charger, and an outdoor outlet. They ran about 100 feet of underground trench and made sure everything was done neatly and safely.

Common Questions

Answers Before You Book

Which chargers do you install?
All major brands, including Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint, Wallbox, and Enphase. If you have not bought one yet we will tell you what fits your panel and your parking situation.
How long does an EV charger install take?
Most straightforward installs are a few hours. A long run, a panel upgrade, or trenching adds time, and we tell you which applies at the estimate.
Do I need a permit for an EV charger?
Yes in most jurisdictions, and we pull it. Unpermitted electrical work shows up during a home inspection and becomes a problem when you sell.
What if my panel is full?
There are usually options short of a full upgrade, including tandem breakers or a load management device, depending on your service size. We check the capacity and tell you honestly which path you need.
